No-Weaving-in-Ends Crochet Flower Headband

I love custom made crochet accessories. When I bought this little dress for my nieces second birthday, I knew I was going to crochet her a cute headband to go with it. I even had the matching yarn colors because I bought a huge stash of King Cotton yarn from Gründl last year. It is a blend of 55% acrylic and 45% Egyptian cotton, which makes it perfect for accessories, bags and toys. The recommended needle size is 6 mm-7 mm (US: J-K) but I always use a 5.5 mm hook (US: I or 9) so the finished product holds its shape nicely. By the way, I am in no way affiliated to Gründl, I just really like they yarn :)

The best part about this headband is the fact, there there are no ends that you will need to weave in. The secret is in leaving long tails, which you will use to create the braided headband itself after the flower is finished.

Side note: If you are working on a project where weaving in the ends is necessary, I recommend the Magic Knot 

MATERIALS:

• DK or Worsted weight yarn in 3 colors, I used King Cotton from Gründl in black, orange and pink  (I use this Ravelry Standard Yarn Weight Table and the Wraps Per Incht (WPI) method to determine the weight of my yarn)
• 5.5 mm (US size: I or 9) crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Colored bead, minimum of 0.9 mm (0.35") in diameter 
• Depending on the bead hole size, you will either only need your yarn needle, but if it's too small you will need a standard thread needle (+thread) or you can just use a hot glue gun.

ABBREVIATIONS (US standard)

• mc - magic circle
• sc - single crochet
• hdc - half double crochet
• dc - double crochet
• sl stl - slip stitch
• st - stitch
• ch - chain
• R - Round
• C - color

CROCHET FLOWER HEADBAND PATTERN: 

Always leave a long tail (at the beginning of each new color, and also at the end)
Leave a 50cm /20" (=long) tail (Tail 1, C1)

• R1: Color 1 (pink): mc with 5 sc, join with sl st into first sc [5st] 
• R2: ch1, 2sc in each sc, join with sl st into firs sc [10 st]
• R3: "ch1, 3dc in first sc (the one you connected to with sl st in R2), ch1, sl st in the same sc, skip one st, sl st in next st" repeat 5 times (so you create 5 pettals). 

Leaving a long tail (tail 2, C2) Change to Color 2 (orange) with the last sl st (insert hook into the last st, yarn over with the new color, pull through, pull through the loop on the hook). Fasten off Color 1, but leave an extra long tail of 70cm / 28"(tail 3, C1), 

• R4: Color 2 (orange): "ch2, (sc, hdc) in the first dc from R3, 2dc in next st, (hdc, sc) in next st, ch2, sl st in the sc with 3dc, sl st in the next sc with 3dc" repeat 5 times.

Fasten off after the last sl st. Leave a long tail (tail 4, C2) and pull it to the back side of the flower

• R5: Color 3 (black): mc with 10 sc, join with sl st into first sc. Do not pull tight. Leave a little hole in the middle. The circumference should be the same as R2. [10st]

Fasten off. Leave a long tail on both ends (tail 5 and tail 6, C3).

FINAL ASSEMBLY

Using Tail 3 (C2: orange), attach the R5 circle to R2 in the middle of the flower. Both R2 and R5 have 10 sc so it's pretty straight forward. Insert the needle into the R2-sc  from the back side of the flower, pull through, go over the R5-sc and pull the needle inside to the back side of the flower again. Work you way around, don't cut off the tail at the end.

Make braids on each side using Tail 1 (C1) + Tail 2 (C2) + Tail 5 (C3) and Tail 3 (C1) + Tail 4 (C2) + Tail 6 (C3).

Attacht the bead. Pull it through the hole in R5. If it's big enough it will just stay inside. I decided to attach mine with a needle and a thread since it's a present for a little girl.
