Light Summer Hat with a Flower

This summer hat has a special meaning for me, because it was the first custom made crochet project that I made. It was for my little niece, who was 3 months old then.
The pattern is actually 2 year old, so you might already know it from my ravelry page. However I decided to post all my patterns as blog posts as well, because it got kind of confusing, what is on ravelry and what is here :)
As always, you can either download the pattern as pdf or just read it here on my blog. So here we go...

Crochet Flower Scheme + Pattern
This scheme is scanned from a really old crochet book, and unfortunately I forgot it's name and author :( I am in no way trying to pass is as my own original pattern, however I thought it fits the hat quite perfectly. I am doing my research to find the book author to give her (or him :) her/his deserved credit!

Leave a 20cm, 8” long tail (use it to attach the flower to the hat)
  • R1: ch6, join with sl st to create a circle
  • R2: ch5, {1dc in the circle, ch2}*7, sl st in 3rd ch
  • R3: {1sc, 1hdc, 1dc, 1hdc, 1sc} in each ch2-space, sl st in 1st ch2-space
  • Fasten off
  • With a sl st, attach new yarn around one of the dc from R2, you will be now working on the back side of the flower
  • R4: ch6, {1dc around the next dc from R2, ch3} *7, sl st in 3rd ch from ch6
  • R5: {1sc, ch1, 3dc, ch1, 1sc} in each ch3-space, sl st in 1st ch3-space
  • Fasten off and weave in the ends.
